This was the second gig I managed to get to during Frank Turner’s small venues tour. There was more listening to new songs being tested live and it was magical. To have an artist try out songs live before putting them on an album is something that just does not happen anymore. Sometimes knowing how an audience receives a new song may change the set up of the song, the spot on the album or the whole song all together.
Support were the ever hilarious Koo Koo Kangaroo again. I can tell you one thing: it’s love or hate with these guys. But if you’re into fun and silly lyrics then yes Koo Koo Kangaroo will be the best thing you have ever seen. It’s like being on drugs but non-life-threatening drugs. YouTube them – and thank me later. Plus, please invite me to your cat party!
I never get tired of seeing Frank Turner live, no matter how many times I’ve been to a gig. There are always the classics and the man never fails to entertain.
He did ask all of us to not video the new songs, and thankfully most people complied. The others did receive dirty looks. One more thing I love about the FT army, they understand Frank’s requests (most of the time anyways).
The Oxford Town Hall is a beautiful venue with an amazing sound and I cannot recommend it enough.
