Hunter & The Bear bring the noise in Aberdeen

Having just released their debut album Paper Heart, London-based rock band Hunter & The Bear played a big show in a small venue in Aberdeen.

If you’re looking for a new band to love that also provides killer live shows and vocals to die for, Hunter & The Bear are for you. Last Friday the four piece played Aberdeen’s Tunnels with a sold out show.

The Tunnels is one of those incredible small music venues that give a stage to up and coming bands, and in addition make for a fun and almost hipster atmosphere (in a good way). Support from November Lights, a five-piece from Scotland you should definitely check out, has the room swaying back and forth in happiness in no time. Their catchy indie-pop is easy listening and intriguing at the same time.

As the speakers blast hard rock anthems, getting the audience pumped for what they’re about the experience, Hunter & The Bear make their way through the crowd and onto the stage (Oh yeah, you read that right, THROUGH the crowd). With the first riff and Will Irvine’s intense voice echoing through the room the audience is in trance. The temperature rises and by the end of the show has the venue at boiling point, both literally and metaphorically.

The set list features songs from the band’s debut album but also tracks from their various EP’s. With a production and sound almost too big for the 300-cap venue it is clear the band belongs on the big stages of this country and make for an incredible festival band for sure. Tracks like Who’s Gonna Hear You? and album lead single Paper Heart showcase the quartet’s earth-shattering rock while songs like Won’t You Ever Come Home will tug at your heartstrings and give you all the feels.

Soaring guitars, anthemic tunes and one-of-a-kind lead vocals make this band one of the strongest contenders for bands you can’t miss live in 2017. Keep an ear out for these lads, they’re headed only upwards.
