Dropkick Murphys announce UK tour for 2019

They’ll be playing Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and London.

Boston Celtic punks Dropkick Murphys have announced a return to the UK for a run of shows in April 2019, following an incredibly successful run of European shows and festivals throughout 2018.

The tour kicks off on 21 April in Birmingham and concludes on 26 April at London’s iconic O2 Academy Brixton, where the band performed a sold out show in January 2017. One of the biggest American Celtic punk bands in the world, expect to hear their classic songs and massive hits as well as tracks off their latest album 11 Short Stories Of Pain And Glory.

Dropkick Murphys have become ambassadors for their city. In Boston, it seems like everybody knows someone connected to the band whether by blood, friendship, or the time they shared a brew at a Bruins game. They’ve built a legacy that does Beantown proud.

Since their 1996 formation, they’ve sold a staggering 4 million albums worldwide with 2005’s The Warrior’s Code achieving an RIAA Gold certification and its smash single I’m Shipping Up To Boston nearing double platinum and appearing during a key moment of Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-winning The Departed.

The band released their emotionally charged ninth studio album, 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory, to strong reviews in January 2017. Many of the songs on it reflect the bands personal experiences, including the band’s sadness, anger and dismay at the opiate epidemic ravaging the country – in particular, Boston and New England. 4-15-13 stands out as one of the most emotional pieces in the group’s huge catalog. Paying homage to the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing, most of whom the band grew to know personally after visits to their hospital rooms in the aftermath.

Here are Dropkick Murphys’ UK dates:

21 April – O2 Academy, Birmingham
22 April – O2 Academy, Glasgow
23 April – O2 Academy, Leeds
25 April – Academy, Manchester
26 April – O2 Academy Brixton, London
